Lillesden Grade 11 Refurbishment and Enabling Works

The first phase of this exciting commission to convert a stunning Grade 11 Listed school in Kent into new residential apartments has been completed 2017. The original building was been badly damaged by previous neglect and much of the historic fabric has been lost. Working with Sandhill Homes Ltd we are piecing together an exceptional restoration. The interior has been remodelled keeping the historical spaces intact whilst creating spectacular new living spaces. Each apartment has its own unique atmosphere and quality. The restoration works will be offset by a second phase of new enabling development in the grounds of this Listed parkland setting. 18 innovative new family homes will be built set amongst mature trees and lawns.

Fry/Gropius New Works

With Listed Building and Planning Permission granted 2016, this very rare opportunity looks at improving the setting of a Grade 11* 1928 Maxwell Fry house in Hertfordshire. The house was designed at the time when Fry shared his studio with Walter Gropius of the German Bauhaus movement. The work involves removing some unslightly ancillary structures and creates a new living space accessed via a subterranean link. Working with English Heritage the scope additionally involves the careful restoration of the original windows and interior features. The new fully glazed extension building features renewable ground source heating and cooling together with specialist glazing with translucent interlayers. Work starts summer 2017.

Code 6 House St Albans

This new residential project set within the St Albans Conservation area is aimed at achieving BRE Code 6 for sustainable homes and will be one of the most technically advanced houses in the District. Our clients wanted a simple contemporary design to compliment the advanced nature of the construction. Unfortunately the Council refused planning permission but we are hopeful that an Appeal will be successful.
