Castle Hall Arts Performance building is remarkable for its stunning setting and its opportunity for refurbishment.

The truncated forms of this brick and zinc monolith are sited adjacent to Hertford Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Alongside runs the fast flowing River Lea. We won a limited competition for the refurbishment of the interior and exterior elevations. We have promoted ideas for accessibility, transparency and breathing new life and uses into the public foyer spaces.

The designs incorporate a new flexible arts exhibition space, an internal café and multipurpose room. We have tried to make theatre of public spaces whilst enhancing the experience of an evening out.
